“Congratulations! You’ve been selected to participate in the Disney College Program!”

My hands started shaking. I’d refreshed my emails about 600 times over the last three days alone waiting for this moment.

For some reason I felt 1,000 imaginary needles poke my face at once, and then I started sweating.

I was in shock, but my head was clear enough to tell my fingers that I should call my Mom.

So I did.

“Well hello,” she said.

I stayed silent for a split-second, then uttered these words I’ll never forget.

“Well, your son just got a job at Disney,” I replied.

Then my eardrums exploded. 

Mom was excited. She was always the Disney fanatic of the family, introducing my siblings and I to Peter Pan, Pocahontas, and Aladdin. 

I was excited, too, but it almost never happened. Looking back, my life would be drastically different if I didn’t apply to the Disney College Program.
